Silent Valley
Just a 3-minute drive from our Pods is the Silent Valley Reservoir and Ben Crom Reservoir. Located within the Mourne Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, houses beautiful parkland, lakes and a pond. It is the ideal place for a romantic walk around the various scenic trails and paths and is an ideal setting for a nice picnic.
The Mourne Wall
A 22-mile granite stone wall built between 1904 and 1922 to enclose a catchment area of the Silent Valley Reservoir. The historic wall passes over fifteen of the Mourne’s summits. If you fancy a challenge, take on the Mourne Wall by following the famous wall across the 15 peaks and experience some of the best views that the Mournes have to offer.
Murlough Nature Reserve
Murlough National Nature Reserve offers the best and most extensive example of dune heath within Ireland, a network of paths and boardwalks through the dunes, woodland and heath with an array of butterflies and wild flowers. The dune walk leads to the picturesque beach.
peace Maze
Located within the beautiful Castlewellan Forest Park, the popular Peace Maze is the second-largest permanent hedge maze in the world. Castlewellan Forest Park is a must-visit for all ages.
Spelga Reservoir
Spelga is a reservoir in the Mourne Mountains. It sits at over 370 m above sea level and was developed between 1953 and 1957. It provides the perfect backdrop for a scenic mountain drive.
The Blue Lough
A scenic loop trail at the foot of Slieve Binnian featuring the beautiful lake, ‘The Blue Lough’. This peaceful 5-mile walk is perfect for anyone looking for a gentle hill walk.
Cranfield West Beach
Cranfield offers a gently sloping, mainly sandy beach located at the entrance to Carlingford Lough, an area designated as being of Special Scientific Interest. Set in an idyllic location at the mouth of Carlingford Lough in County Down, this south facing beach boasts the majestic Mourne Mountains as a backdrop.
Kilbroney Forest Park
Kilbroney forest features riverside walks, an arboretum, tennis courts and a cafe. There is a two-mile forest drive to panoramic views over Carlingford Lough. The forest drive leads to a car park from where walkers have the opportunity to climb to Cloughmore Stone, which sits at approx 1000ft above Rostrevor.
Carlingford Scenic Ferry
Carlingford Lough Ferry connects the dramatic Cooley Peninsula at the beginning of Ireland’s Ancient East in the Republic of Ireland with the majestic Mountains of Mourne. Board the ferry at the Greenore or Greencastle Terminal and enjoy a scenic voyage across one of Ireland’s most scenic Loughs.
Newcastle Beach
Newcastle Beach comprises of sand, pebbles and larger stones and is approximately 2.5 km in length. The major part of Newcastle Beach is backed by a promenade and the seaside town of Newcastle, which has lots of shops, amusements and other attractions. The beach has a very gentle slope with the Mountains of Mourne in the background.
Tollymore Forest Park
Covering an area of almost 630 hectares at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, Tollymore Forest Park has panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and the sea at Newcastle, offering outdoor activities like walking, horse riding and orienteering.
Annalong Cornmill
The beautifully restored mill features a multi-media exhibition where you can experience Mourne life of the past, meet the miller and follow the progress of the oats through the milling process. You can learn about the famous stonemen of Mourne and the schooners that left the harbour carrying prized Mourne granite to help build the cities of Britain.
